Hosted by Professor at the Busch School of Business Dr. Dawn Carpenter What Does it Profit? is an insider’s perspective on the growth of profits for businesses versus the world’s need for what matters most. Carpenter’s podcast is her perspective as a business ethicist and professor, and her take on how we as a society can work to align the interests of businesses and the greater good in order to make the world a better place.

Dr. Carpenter is no stranger to publishing her own podcast. Her last project, More Than Money, was extremely popular, garnering over 100,000 downloads on iTunes and Spotify. Her previous successes have gained this project a full production team, including former PBS CFO, Barbara Landes.

This podcast centers around the question, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?” from the Gospel of Mark 8:36. According to Carpenter, nothing. Her stance is that businesses putting profits above everything else leads the world to the brink of a climate catastrophe. Carpenter believes we as a society are able to put aside our materialistic desires in order to create a better world, one that fights for the common good of humanity, and her podcast explains how we can achieve this goal.

The trailer for the podcast, released on September 9, had garnered over 4,000 downloads across 12 countries. The first episode of the podcast, released on Wednesday, October 21, had featured special guest, Fahmi Quadir, one of the world’s leading short-selling hedge fund managers who looks to use a short investing strategy to achieve “alpha”, a term used in investing to describe a strategy’s ability to beat the market, or it’s “edge.” She also wishes to focus the world on companies whose demise makes the world a better place.

Carpenter wants listeners to learn more about how capitalism works and how it affects us, as a society, and also on a personal level. By interviewing the world’s leading thinkers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and executives, she plans on exploring the most innovative ways we can reconcile capitalism’s demand for profit with the long term well-being of people and the planet.

All released episodes are available to stream on RSS Feed, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, or on the What Does it Profit? official website.
